Christmas is a time for giving

Last year our parish was very generous in supporting the evangelization work of Father Walter Kongari, S.J. through giving alternative gifts of goats and pigs to Santhal families and sponsoring the education of children. I'd like to tell you that there is now a chicken in every pot, but Walter said that without any veterinary support in the area a number of our sponsored animals have died. Folks still cherish the livestock they have. This year Father Kongari said that a more realistic number is $30.00 for a goat.

He does have three other very important concerns for his mission. The first is tuition: $50.00 for a day-scholar and $200.00 for a boarder for the year. This includes books and uniforms.

Because of viral meningitis in the area, he is hoping to provide mosquito nets at $5.00 each for the families exposed to this illness.

Finally, multi-vitamin tablets for the children at $12.00 for the year. This past year parents remarked at the glow on the cheeks of their children who were taking multi-vitamins.

Thank you very much for caring for the people of Rerua. Please mark all checks for Father Walter Kongari, S.J. and make them out to St. Alphonsus Rodriguez.
